What You’ll Need for Your DJ Session

To get the most out of our time together, there are a few basic tools you’ll need — especially if you’re serious about developing your own DJ practice.

DJ Software (Required)

You’ll need Traktor Pro 3 or Traktor Pro 4 installed on your laptop before our session. I work primarily with Traktor, and all sessions are taught using this software.

Purchase here:
https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/traktor/dj-software/traktor-pro-4/

If you already have Traktor Pro 3, that’s totally fine, we can work with either version.

Laptop

• A reliable laptop (Mac or PC)
• Enough storage to hold your music library
• Traktor installed and opened before our session

Music Library (Optional to Start)

You don’t need a massive library to begin.

We can:
• Start with a small, intentional selection of tracks
• Talk about sourcing music ethically
• Learn how to organize playlists for journey-based sets

Headphones (Required)

A pair of over-ear DJ headphones (not earbuds) is essential for:
• Beatmatching
• Cueing tracks
• Learning clean transitions

Any decent-quality DJ or studio headphones will work to start.

DJ Controller / Console

Having your own controller is strongly recommended if you’re serious about learning and practicing DJing.
I primarily teach using Native Instruments controllers, as they integrate seamlessly with Traktor.

Browse DJ controllers here:
https://www.native-instruments.com/en/catalog/djing/
For in-person sessions:
I’ll have a spare compact controller (Z1) available to practice on.

That said:
If you want to truly progress, practicing regularly on your own equipment is essential.

A Note on Equipment & Commitment

You don’t need the best gear to begin…but having your own setup makes a huge difference in confidence, muscle memory, and growth.

I’m happy to:
• Help you choose the right controller for your budget
• Advise on minimal, travel-friendly setups
• Support you in building a simple, effective home practice setup
